Demographics Research on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram
In December 2012, Pew Internet & American Life Project conducted research on the social media demographics on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Intagram and found some interesting data on which social media platform is popular among certain demographics.

The research found that as of December 2012, 67% of online adults use social networking sites and majority of them are on Facebook. Two-third of the online adults say that they are on Facebook and women are more likely than men to be on Facebook.
Only 16% of the online adults are on Twitter. Out of the adult online users, Black, Non-Hispanic (26%) are more likely to be using Twitter. Furthermore, those under 50 are more likely to be on Twitter.
Pew’s research just proved that the rumors on how majority of the users on Pinterest are women. 15% of the online adults are using Pinterest and 25% of the adult online users are women. White, Non-Hispanic are the majority of the users on Pinterest. Majority of the users’ age range from 18-49.
Finally, Instagram, the rising star. Once again, women are the majority user on Instagram, a total of 16% women of the adult online users are on Instagram. Young adults from 18-29 dominates the user base on Instagram.
