Linkedin Update: Good-Bye Linkedin Answers!

Linkedin-tombstone

Sad news for all Linkedin users, Linkedin Answers will be removed on January 31st.  Linkedin sent out an email on Thursday, January 17th to all Linkedin users informing them about this update.

Linkedin shared, in the email, “we’re focusing our efforts on developing new and more engaging ways to share and discuss professional topics across LinkedIn.”  Based on this statement, I guess Linkedin doesn’t think the Answer section is engaging enough.  WHAT!?!  There are 50 pages (10 questions each page, 500 questions) of open questions! Still not engaging enough?

While retiring Linkedin Answers, they suggest you to continue to share insights and questions on Linkedin via these ways:

  • Connect with like-minded professionals in one of our 1.5M+ Groups
  • Ask other Linkedin members questions and receive immediate feedback via Polls
  • Follow influencers for access to insightful professional content
  • Facilitate conversations with your connections via status updates

Unfortunately, at the moment you can’t export your answers!  Darn it!  And I spent quite some time answering questions on Linkedin Answers too, I got a few Best Answers and a good number of Good Answers too!  Sad! Hopefully Linkedin will allow the users to somehow export the answers or somehow share them so our efforts won’t be a waste.

Wow, I wonder what their logic is for removing this. Maybe they feel the interaction isn’t “direct” enough and they’d rather have people connecting directly with each other. One thing’s for certain, if they left a gap, someone will step in and fill it!

I guess one reason why they removed it is because they weren’t able to compete with Yahoo! Answers and Quora. But I still find a lot of people using it and a lot of interaction going on. I don’t understand their logic as well. We will see what they will roll out soon.

    Tommy,

I did not know that they were getting rid of Answers, guess I didn’t get the email. I have to honestly say that I didn’t use it very much. I am interested in seeing what they are going to replace it with.

      Hi Jennifer,
Linkedin Answer is a really nice tool to share your knowledge and get answers on questions you might have. Maybe start using it while it is still available. I hope they will replace it with something useful and helpful to the users.

      Thanks for reading the update!

As time goes by things change. I wonder if Linked In is making the right decision in “revising” their program. I guess it will be a wait and see. :-)

Answers is a good app, hopefully something better will be out.

That’s disappointing Tommy that LinkedIn is not providing members with a way to export their answers. You’re not the only one who is expressing dissatisfaction over this move. Hopefully, someone will come up with a solution. On the plus side, LinkedIn cannot take away the reputation that you’ve built while providing those answers. I’m sure many people will continue to follow you and read your blog.

Thank you very much for the encouragement Sherryl. One way to get a copy of all my answers is to print them all out. It is kind of tedious but you have a copy of your answers. I hope someone will come up with a solution too.

I do hope they will provide you with a way to export your answers. It is frustrating when a good thing you’ve invested in and have grown to enjoy participating disappears.. and for no good reason. As Sherryl points out, you won’t lose the respect you’ve earned! Perhaps there will be an even better way for you to share your expertise in the near future. In the meantime I’ll keep visiting here :-)

Thank you for the encouragement! Yup! I still have connection with those who I helped in Linkedin Answers! Hopefully, something better will roll out soon.
